3 Retro Games Begging for an iOS Remake

To paraphrase Don Draper, nostalgia is a delicate but potent motivation. Memories of games that we haven’t seen in years drive us to fan forums for clues on upcoming re-releases. Here are three of our most hoped for titles:

EV Nova

Way before StarCraft or Eve Online, Escape velocity Nova on the Mac was the seminal space exploration and trading game. Although the pleadings are frequent in forum posts – there is no news from maker Ambrosia Software on a translation for iOS. Some game makers have attempted to step up and fill this gap. You can try your hand at Warp Gate or Space Miner as a substitute - but don't expect a true EV Nova experience - you may be disappointed.

StarControl II

This critically acclaimed space simulation game from the early '90s still has a strong cult following. SC2 sees you piloting Earth's last spaceship around a conquered galaxy, making allies with friendly aliens to defeat the dreaded Ur-Quan Masters. The game code was released under a GPL license in 2002 and while Star Control II has been ported to a wide variety of platforms - it may not make it to iOS due to commercial conflicts between Apple and open source licensing. Another World

High on style and narrative, this moody SciFi platformer was built for multiple console and PC variants in the early 90s. The immersive storyline and innovative 3d cut-scenes ushered in a new era for action games as works of art. Unlike the above games, Another World has a strong chance of making it onto our iDevices soon. Publisher BulkyPix has teamed up with DotEmu to make it happen sometime later this year.
